Free-To-Play 5v5 Tactical Shooter PUBG: BLINDSPOT Now In Early Access On Steam

Developer Krafton has launched PUBG: BLINDSPOT in early access. The free-to-play 5v5 tactical shooter is set decades after PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS.

Krafton has promised it retains the same tense atmosphere as the original game. But the top-down view, compact arenas, and 5v5 format mean it will demand teamplay and intense strategy.

Available Now In Early Access

The game is completely free to play and launched on February 5. On Steam, it has achieved a Mixed rating from 1,832 reviews. According to SteamDB it has 2,600 active players and a peak player count of 3,251 on Sunday, February 8.

On launch, players can choose from 15 agents. Most agents have the same basic gadgets, with a few exceptions. But they do have different primary weapons and unique, more powerful gadgets.

There are assault, support, and specialist agents with Apex, Fanatic, and Kayak considered the early meta choices. However, team composition will be important – running a team of 5 Apexes is unlikely to give you the w.

One week after release, on February 12, competitive seasons will start. Season 1 tournaments will feature 20 streamers in each tournament, with matches streamed on Twitch and CHZZK.

Esports Potential

Its siblings, PUBG: Battlegrounds and PUBG Mobile, are popular competitive eSports titles, with both set to feature in the Esports World Cup 2026. And it looks like BLINDSPOT is being set up to follow in their footsteps. Krafton has said they will be actively listening to player feedback. It aims to keep the game in early access for about a year before a full release.

The game is obviously going to play differently from the Battle Royale PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. The top-down view looks intriguing, and agents and arenas have clearly been set up to encourage team synergy.

However, there is still a lot of bad blood for Krafton, following its alleged treatment of Subnautica 2 developers, its hostile business actions, and its insistence on becoming an AI-first company. It will need to win crowds over if it wants to amass the kind of popularity the original PUBG titles enjoyed.
