Krafton Launching Xeno Point – A PUBG: Battlegrounds Roguelite Game
PUBG: Battlegrounds’ developer, Krafton, has unveiled its 2026 roadmap as the battle royale celebrates 9 years since its 2017 launch. Maps will get significant updates, smoke will become more dynamic, and weapons and equipment will get regular updates.
The devs have also promised more varied gameplay additions. As well as the upcoming Payday crossover heist mode, there is Xeno Point – a co-op roguelite that encourages strategic gameplay and features a progression system for levelling up and improving characters.
PUBG: Battlegrounds launched into early access on March 23, 2017, before its full launch in December of the same year. The PC and console versions of the game started as paid games but have since become free to play. More than 80 million copies have been sold. There have also been nearly 2 billion downloads of PUBG Mobile.
Map Changes
Over time, Krafton has massively expanded the game, including its map selection.
As well as the original Erangel map, players can battle it out on Miramar, Taego, Deston, Rondo, Sanhok, Vikendi, Karaki, and Haven.
Erangel will see a substantial change in April. A blog post from Krafton reads: “As the oldest and most beloved map, Erangel’s long history also meant engagement spots became predictable, with too many endgames in wheat fields or ridgelines coming down to Blue Zone luck over skill.
“Once Destructible Terrain goes live, you can create your own cover even in open areas, turning the terrain from a fixed environment into a tactical tool you shape yourself. This should make Erangel’s combat feel far more dynamic and proactive.”
Miramar is also seeing changes, with secret rooms being added. Rondo will get improvements aimed at improving flow and minimizing pain points.
New Games Modes
The most exciting update comes in the shape of two new game modes, coming hot on the heels of February’s PUBG: BLINDSPOT launch. PAYDAY mode is a crossover with the PAYDAY: The Heist game and its sequels. PAYDAY is a co-op heist game that requires strategy and planning, rather than just running and gunning.
First comes Xeno Point, though, which launches in April. The game is billed as a roguelite. Krafton describes it as “a looter-shooter roguelite that combines co-op, progression, and boss raids,” before going on to say you will be able to “fight off endless waves, grow your character, and coordinate with your team to take down big bosses. It’s a different thrill from battle royale, one built around the satisfaction of growth within PUBG.”
Although the devs have not provided any other details, there are also plans for a new genre project, slated for launch in the winter season.
