Overwatch Drops 2 From Title And Showcases Upcoming Season 1 Heroes
Blizzard added Overwatch to its roster of game spotlights this year. It would be fair to say they market the occasion with substantial updates for Season 1. The updates bring the game closer to what was promised when Overwatch 2 launched in 2022, bringing a deeper storyline, improvements, and new Overwatch heroes and maps.
During the Overwatch Spotlight, the devs announced the game would be rebranded as Overwatch, ditching the “2” from the title.
Nintendo players will also be pleased to hear that Overwatch, which has been confirmed for this year’s Esports World Cup, will be coming to Switch 2 with the start of season 2.
Game content releases are also enjoying a huge overhaul. A new story will launch every year, and each will contain several chapters, or seasons. Seasons will numerically reset with each new story.
Reign of Talon
First up, we are getting Reign of Talon in 2026, which will include six seasons. Season 1 is launching on February 10 and will include five new Heroes. Each season thereafter will include one additional new hero, for a total of 10 new playable characters this year.
New seasonal meta events will introduce missions for players to complete and rewards for doing so. Reign of Talon sees Vendetta forcibly seizing control of the Talon faction, ousting Doomfist as leader after lopping off his arm. And it will demand players pick a side – Overwatch or Talon.
Conquest
Season 1, officially titled Conquest, will introduce two new maps and an improved UI. Players will once again be able to vote for their MVPs – end-of-match voting cards were sadly removed in Overwatch 2.
There are in-game visual improvements, too, courtesy of an engine upgrade.
Conquest introduces sub-roles, with three or four for each role. These sub-roles come with unique features and benefits. For example, the initiator is a sub-role of the tank role. Initiators get light healing while staying airborne.
New Overwatch Heroes
The new heroes, which will be playable from the February 10 launch, are:
- Domina – Tank
- Emre – Damage
- Mizuki – Support
- Anran – Damage
- Jetpack Cat – Support
