Meccha Chameleon Hits 15 Million Downloads Ahead Of First Collab
Friend slop, hide and seek, party game, Meccha Chameleon, has amassed an impressive 15 million downloads since its launch. It’s only a little more than a week since the game hit the 10 million milestone, and to celebrate its latest achievement, developers Lemorio_1224 and Hanageiro have teased a collaboration with “a famous Japanese star”.
In a post on the game’s Steam page, the development duo announced: “We hit 15 million in sales! Thanks a million! Get ready for a new collaboration with a famous Japanese star next week!”
Meccha Chameleon Popularity
The update is short and sweet, but that’s hardly surprising considering Meccha Chameleon is the work of just two people.
The game held a playtest weekend in May before launching on June 10. 2 days later it had sold 500,000 copies and its increasing popularity hasn’t waned since. 2 million copies had sold on June 15, and new map Sugarland was introduced on June 17. Osaka was the next map launched, on June 22, when the game’s player count peaked at around 340,000 concurrent users.
The game’s format and visual style has seen it take streaming channels by storm. Popular creators including caseoh_ have helped the game’s popularity.
Meccha Chameleon is available on Steam and costs $6/£5. It is developed by two people and took two months to create, so expect some issues. And its gameplay means it will have limited replay life, but it is hugely addictive and a lot of fun.
Stats suggest you’re unlikely to demand a Steam refund. It has a Very Positive Steam rating, with 90% of more than 26,000 reviews being at least positive.
