Windrose Surpasses 1 Million Downloads In 6 Days On Steam
Windrose launched less than two weeks ago, and the indie game from developer Kraken Express has already whipped up a storm. After being downloaded 500,000 times in its first 48 hours on Steam, it went on to amass 1 million downloads in its first six days.
It also hit a peak of over 222,000 concurrent players on the platform, all despite some early connectivity issues.
An Age Of Piracy
Survival adventure game Windrose lets players build, craft, and survive in a piratey world.
Fighting takes place on land and at sea, with a selection of ships to buy. It has more than 20 buildable structures that offer access to survival equipment, including weapons and armour. The base building, which takes some getting used to, also has a degree of progression.
The game is early access, which means there are areas for improvement, but it has already enjoyed very positive reviews on Steam.
Windrose On Steam
That positivity has seemingly converted into good sales figures, too. Within 48 hours of its 14 April release, Kraken Express had knocked out 500,000 copies of the game on Steam alone. It is also available via Epic Games, which means the figure is likely higher.
Its popularity has caused some issues for the inexperienced development team. There were complaints about connectivity issues, although a hotfix release went some way to remedying issues.
With that said, Kraken should have been expecting some of the popularity. It hit the top of the Steam Next Fest in February when the company reported 1.5 million people had added it to their Steam Wish Lists. It’s also published by Pocketpair, which also published the popular title Palworld.
Future Plans
Kraken Express has said it is initially working on additional connectivity fixes and other bugs. But it also said they had an advanced roadmap. Buyers can expect more biomes, ships, weapons, and additional storyline content.
Windrose is already generous in the storyline department, with a run taking 70+ hours, according to the devs. Kraken has also hinted at the possibility of a console port, but that would be much later in its life. The devs have said they expect to launch a full release within 2.5 years.
