Digimon Up Launches July 15, Has 1 Million Pre-Registrations

The new Digimon mobile game, Digimon Up, is set for release on July 15 according to developers Bandai Namco. The new title enables players to battle and raise Digimon. It will include some of the franchise’s most popular characters, including Agumon and Gabumon.

Pre1 million people have already pre-registered for the free-to-play title since its announcement on May 1. In recognition of that milestone, pre-registered players are now set to receive bonuses including Tai Yagami when the game launches. Up will be available on Android devices, and on iOS devices running iOS 15 or newer.

Digimon Up was announced in March this year and billed as a monster-raising RPG. It is free-to-play, although Bandai Namco has not yet announced the type, cost, or scale of in-game micro purchases.

Pre-Registration Goals

Players have been able to pre-register on the Play Store and App Store, with Bandai Namco offering milestone incentives. With 1 million pre-registrations, the game has hit every major milestone.

Players will now get Taichi Yagami and Agumon as well as Numemon and Gekkomon from earlier milestone achievements. There’s also a ton of bits, seeds, and tickets coming your way if you pre-registered.

This month, Bandai Namco has also released an update for Digimon Story: Time Stranger on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC, while also releasing the popular title on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

There are dozens of official Digimon games, starting with 1998’s Digital Monster Ver. S: Digimon Tamers. Time Stranger is the most recent launch and considered one of the best releases by a lot of franchise lovers.

Digimon Esports?

Despite the potential for competitive gaming, Digimon hasn’t become an esports title. Most titles have strong story-driven RPG arcs, and Bandai Namco seemingly has very little interest in adding competitive PvP. Competitions do exist, but they pretty much all use the physical Digimon Card Game, launched in 2020.

Cyber Sleuth and a couple of other Digimon video games did have PvP elements, but these elements never proved popular enough to sway developers in that direction.
