Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls Launch Plagued By PC Issues

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls may have only launched a few days ago, but they have been busy days for developers Arc System Works. The new fighting game launched on PlayStation 5 and PC on August 6. Despite having undergone beta testing a couple of weeks earlier, it suffered serious performance issues on release. Even after the day 1 patch.

Performance Issues On PC

Players reported significant performance issues on the PC version of the game. The same issues that beset the title during its open beta. Players are suffering stuttering framerates. Seemingly regardless of settings and PC specs. What’s worse is when a player suffers stuttering, it effectively causes lag for the opposing player, which means it is very difficult to find games without any problems.

With the problems occurring across such a range of machines and settings, it’s difficult to diagnose the cause. However, some users have pointed to the fact that multiple instances of PlayStation PC SDK run when the game starts up. However, these don’t seem to use a lot of PCU, GPU, or memory.

Linux users are reporting even bigger problems, with many completely unable to even play the game.

Marvel Tokon Day 1 Patch

A day 1 patch was meant to help address these performance issues. It brought several changes meant to reduce input lag and handle other possible issues. But, the fixes haven’t really improved matters.

The developers have kind of acknowledged the problem and said they are looking into it. But they haven’t outlined the cause or given any clear indication of when a proper fix might be forthcoming.

Marvel Tokon Rating

As a result of the issues, the game’s rating on Steam is suffering. Despite being a generally enjoyable game, it currently has mixed reviews with only 40% of English reviews being positive.

Steam player count has also dropped off, although that is to be expected after the initial launch bounce. On launch, the game had a peak of nearly 25,000 players. Right now, there are fewer than 9,000 playing the game on PC.

Players on PS5 are seemingly having a better time. And, when people can play it glitch free, it has generated positive reviews. It’s already proving popular in the competitive gaming community.

At CEO 2026, it has the second most registered entrants of any fighting game. 1,054 players have signed up for Tokon, compared to 1,112 entrants for Street Fighter 6 – an established fighting game that has even featured in this year’s Esports World Cup.

Marvel Tokon Roadmap

Despite the launch issues, Tokon has been given something of a 12-month roadmap, too. Four new fighters will be added to the game over the course of the next year, with one new addition every three months.

A new stage is also slated for launch between April and June next year. There’s likely to be plenty of other content, including cosmetics, but details of these haven’t been released yet.

Marvel Tokon Esports

Currently, the esports fighting game market is led by Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, Super Smash Bros, and Brawlhalla. If early indication is anything to go by, Tokon has the potential to inject itself into the market, evidenced by the number of sign ups it got at this year’s CEO.

But, it’s going to need to get its issues sorted out smartish, if it wants to be a mainstream gaming success. Especially considering it is a premium £60 game, while the likes of upcoming mobile fighting game DCKO, is set to launch as a free-to-play title.
